If you are collaborating with others on files/folders that live in your My Drive, it is HIGHLY suggested to move these shared file/folder structures into a Shared Drive - particularly when the content is business-critical and should not be owned by any one person. If you are unsure which Shared Drive is appropriate, please talk with your supervisor.
IMPORTANT: Shared Drives do NOT need to be moved to the @ucsd.edu domain at this time. The main item to take care of with your Shared Drives is adding your new account to the Membership of that Shared Drive so you can access it from your @ucsd.edu account.
If you are a member of a Shared Drive that you do not manage, please contact the manager of that Shared Drive to add your @ucsd.edu account username to the Shared Drive so you can retain access
If you have created a Shared Drive with your @physics.ucsd.edu account, then that Shared Drive lives within the Google physics.ucsd.edu domain. Currently, these Shared Drives can remain in place, right where they are at right now. If this plan changes, we will contact Shared Drive owners for further planning.
If you REALLY want to move your @physics.ucsd.edu Shared Drive to the @ucsd.edu domain right now:
Add your @ucsd.edu Google account as a Manager of the old Shared Drive
Log into your @ucsd.edu Google account, and create a new Shared Drive for your data
You can then move your files from the old Shared Drive to the new Shared Drive
Note that ucsd.edu Shared Drives are 1GB for no charge - if you need more space than that, you can pay for more storage space via chartstring. Please contact oec@ucsd.edu for more information.
